Here is my sorry attempt at bending 4" PVC. By the time it was elastic enough to bend, it tended to crumple. I'm was trying to do this by myself and using a barbeque for heat. The 3/4" was much easier.
Here's what Kent Wallace said about bending pipe: "Hey Drew, I don't think the total heat output of a barbeque is enough for pipe of that size. You really need to be able to heat a large area at once with massive heat to get the entire length you're trying to bend evenly flexible all at once. With a large torch head the heat output is larger and you can stand over the pipe and sweep the torch over the pipe in a large figure eight pattern so as not to start and stop the sweeps at the end. As the pipe gets soft you can tap it with your toe and roll it with your foot until the entire area to be bent is soft and wiggly. If you're bending a fairly tight turn you need the help of a second person. Wear thick cotton garden gloves and keep them dry. These seem to work best at not transferring heat through to your hands and if a small kink starts you can squeeze it round and pour water over it to harden it immediately.
Hope this helps, Kent"
